NEW YORK — The National Hockey League is not in the business of making books, the publisher of a popular exercise book said Wednesday.
The National Hockey Book Company said in a statement to ESPN.com that it is not currently a licensee of the book, and the company is exploring legal options.
“The National Basketball Association and the National Hockey Foundation, which own the NHL’s book, do not own the National Basketball Book,” the company said.
“As a licensee, we sell to other leagues and organizations, including NHL teams and owners, but the National Book Company does not own any books.”
The statement was issued as the league continued to try to tamp down a rash of lawsuits filed by book publishers alleging the book and other exercise products are dangerous and unsafe.
The league has denied those claims, and has hired a former lawyer to defend the books against the suit.
